GBRIA is dedicated to helping members develop an available, affordable, world class competitive workforce.  Check out our Contractor Workforce Development Committee to get involved. Through GBRIA, industry members provide input and steering to the Associated Builders and Contractors Craft Training Center, area Community and Technical Colleges and High Schools.  The Alliance Safety Council, the Construction Users Roundtable (CURT), the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and other similar associations across the nation are also key groups that GBRIA partners and collaborates with.

2018 Strategic Initiatives and Initiative Leaders:

GBRIA's Contractor Workforce Development Committee meets for a strategic planning session each year. During this meeting, the committee develops a list of key initiatives to address during the coming year. Committee members step up to lead each of the initiatives and give reports during the committee's monthly meetings. The list of initiatives and their leaders are below:

  • Contractor Workforce Development Awards & Data Benchmarking Report - reviewing and revising GBRIA's Annual Craft Workforce Development Awards program and criteria.

Past Accomplishments

GBRIA's Contractor Workforce Development Committee has seen much success over the years. Below are listed some of this committees' past accomplishments:

  • Expanded Craft Training from private funded Associated Builders and Contractors model to a community-wide public/private model where many more entities are engaged in craft training including High Schools, Community Colleges and Trade Unions (2007-2013)
  • Implemented GBRIA's Annual Craft Workforce Development Awards program, which has affected contractor organizations and contract employees profoundly to think of craft professionals in the spectrum of career path (2007 - present).
  • Sponsored the building of the Associated Builders and Contractors Pelican Chapter Craft Training Center and continues to help its funding (1985-present).
  • Implemented a sustainable model for craft training through the Louisiana Workforce Investment Council (LA WIC) (2011 - 2013).
  • Developed Non-Destructive Training Curriculum for River Parishes and Baton Rouge Community Colleges (2013-2015).
  • Implemented Hydroblasting certification safety short course and craft skill course in partnership with NCCER, which is now required by most plants (2009-2015).
  • Participated in the update of NCCER's Scaffold Builders' Curriculum (2014-2016).
