Safety, Health, and Security

Our Strategic Objective

Our strategic objective is to enable and facilitate the pursuit of injury and incident-free workplaces throughout the Greater Baton Rouge industrial community.

Committee Leadership

GBRIA's Safety, Health, and Security Committee is led by member company representatives who set the direction for the committee's programs, data sharing, and peer learning initiatives. Our committee co-chairs are:

  • Christy Blanchard, Rubicon
  • Tim Harris, RES Contractors
  • Darylene Pugh, Shell

Safety, Health, and Security Committee

The Safety, Health, and Security Committee is the central forum through which GBRIA member companies share best practices, exchange incident and near-miss data, and engage in peer-to-peer learning that benefits the region's industrial community as a whole. The committee has developed training materials, best practice guides, and resources in partnership with the Alliance Safety Council, ABC, NCCER, and other regional organizations. Its work reflects a longstanding conviction that safety performance improves when industry works together rather than in isolation.

Safety Excellence Awards Program

Since 1996, GBRIA has brought together Greater Baton Rouge area plants and contractors to recognize the safety accomplishments of the previous year. The Safety Excellence Awards Banquet draws more than 700 industry leaders representing GBRIA member companies, industrial contractors, and vendors, making it one of the region's most significant gatherings of industrial safety professionals. The program shines a light on the people and organizations setting the standard for what a safe industrial workplace looks like.

Contractors Safety and Health Auditing

GBRIA facilitates safety and health audits of contractor companies on behalf of its members, using a third-party auditing firm to help member companies meet their obligations under OSHA 1910.119(h) to evaluate contractor safety and health programs. The audit holds reciprocity with the Industry Business Roundtable and remains valid for three years, reducing redundant audits for contractor companies and lowering the overall cost burden across the industry. This is a practical, member-driven service that makes compliance more efficient for everyone involved.

Alliance Safety Council Steering Committee

The Alliance Safety Council delivers safety training that prepares contract workers to enter industrial sites across the Greater Baton Rouge area and is accepted by plants throughout the region and across the nation. GBRIA's steering committee brings owner companies and contractors together to align on training standards and advance the shared goal of maintaining the safest industrial workforce in the country.

NEF Worker Guide

GBRIA's Non-English Fluent Speaking Workers Implementation Guideline for Industrial Sites provides a practical framework for onboarding and managing workers who are not fluent in English. Updated in 2017, the guide is a resource for member companies working to maintain consistent safety standards across a diverse workforce.
