Our Strategic Objective
GBRIA’s Safety, Health, and Security committees and initiatives are led by:
Tim Harris, RES Contractors
Jerry Lebold, BASF
Darylene Pugh, Shell
Christy Blanchard, Rubicon
The SHS committee is dedicated to sharing best practices, enabling invaluable peer-to-peer learning and discussion. The committee also shares data, through GBRIA, on incidents and near misses for the betterment of industry as a whole. The committee has produced numerous material, best practice guides, and training through our partners such as Alliance Safety Council, ABC, NCCER, and others.
Since 1996, Baton Rouge area plants and contractors come together to celebrate the accomplishments made by both in the previous year. The GBRIA Safety Excellence Awards Banquet is attended by over 700 industry leaders, representing GBRIA's members and industrial contractors and vendors. This banquet showcases the best of the best that industry has to offer.
GBRIA, as a service to its members, facilitates a safety & health audit on contractor companies utilizing a 3rd party auditing firm. These audits serve to assist member companies with their requirement to evaluate contractor’s safety and health programs under the OSHA 1910.119 (h) regulations. The audit holds reciprocity with Industry Business Roundtable and is valid for three (3) years. The program is aimed to reduce the cost for member companies and reduce repetitive audits for contractor companies.
The Alliance Safety Council delivers safety training for GBRIA members to prepare contract workers to enter industrial sites and is accepted by all plants in the Greater Baton Rouge area as well as many other plants in the nation. The steering committee bring owners and contractors together to strive to have the safest industrial workforce in the nation.
Revised in 2017, GBRIA's Non-English Fluent Speaking Workers Implementation Guideline for Industrial Sites is a tool for onboarding and managing a non-English fluent workforce.
