October 24th is Industry Day for Middle/High Schoolers Across Louisiana

GBRIA Partners with University View Academy

BATON ROUGE – October 12, 2018 – On October 24th, 2018 hundreds of 8th to 12th graders will visit industrial manufacturing sites across the state to learn about the many career options available.  The Greater Baton Rouge Industry Alliance (GBRIA), whose members are 65 industrial sites, helped University View Academy start up their first Industry Day this year.  After completing a study module on careers, students will visit BASF in Geismar, LA, Calumet Specialty Products Partners, in Shreveport, LA, Dow Amerchol in Greensburg, LA, Oxbow Calcining in Baton Rouge, LA and Shell Refining in Convent, LA for a ½ day of presentations, tours, and an in-depth look at careers in skilled crafts, engineering, management, clerical, human resources and other careers.  “This is a great opportunity to help both students and their parents get a close up look into a manufacturing site as well as to learn about the high-tech, high-paying jobs all around the state,” says Connie Fabre, Executive Director at GBRIA.  This event is in its first year and GBRIA values the opportunity to partner with University View Academy.  “In future years we’d like to grow the number of host sites as well as perhaps grow this idea at other schools,” Fabre said.  To learn more about the day and watch a video, please visit https://www.universityview.academy/213504_2.
